# 71 Invite Mess..

Ok, so before I knew I was going to be a graphic designer, and pretty good at it at that, I bought these stacks of invites to be printed on. Problem is, I tried designing around it, and it looks nice, but when I print it at the nice laser printer at school, it looks homemade! It has little random dots that I just CAN'T stand and don't want to settle. I'm seriously thinking about having it done by a thermography company but that would double the cost of the invites. Btw, the invites aren't that cheap too so every one I mess up on, it's .50 + ink going down the drain. Multiply that by 20 mess ups and that's already $10(which is expected, but still annoying because I've got to throw out the whole set of RSVPs and envelopes that come with it too).

About to break down over some silly paper goods, I called Eager up and drove the gas guzzler of a truck down to the beach, splashed around with her and Sassy, and went to Tu Do with them, my bro, and Yummie (EASY crew). BEST BREAK EVER! Now I'm renewed and ready to finish up on my crap for school. THAT's what's stressing me out. Oh, I added designing and purchasing Yummie's business cards for his new job. Vunderful!

#70 Engagement Photos donezo!

I've been meaning to post some of these up. I love how I mentioned(ever so slyly) that I liked Max Wanger's poses. In reality, I've been swooning over that guy for a month before booking Bitoy but wouldn't dare say it because it would be like a client of mine saying "I love X designer's style, copy it" but in the end, he edited some pics in that style- even I couldn't figure it out!! Anyway, this is my absolute fave.

# 69 FINAL invite design

Ok, I am dying to post them here but I can't- I just can't. I have to wait until they are printed and pretty. I really want to though... maybe just for half a second. So cute! I'm finally happy with the feel... I went to class this morning at 8:30 - apparently, according to an e-mail I received last night from my instructor, I didn't have to go. Since I don't have internet or a computer at home, I didn't know. So, for 3 hours I worked on the invites. Finally! Now I need to find a way to print them. Yessss......

# 68 Bridesmaid Dresses

All of my girls have ordered their dresses at this point besides India(who's out of country btw)! I just picked up Cheungers and placed the order for Terry. Very cool. Then I tried on my dress at home(after it's been sitting in a cardboard box for a month)- it's beginning to grow on me! I haven't shown ANYBODY my dress yet, not b/c I don't want to but I keep forgetting to take it out of the closet and bringing it with me. I'm just weary of getting it dirty but hey, if the dust from Molino doesn't do it, then the party will anyway.

I also just got my vases to the kiln so it can get fired! I might be getting somewhere today!!

# 67 Kanye'd on my wedding day....

# 65 How to Become a Notary

CONCLUSION

  1. obtain an application and information from a bonding company approved to submit applications electronically to the Department of State, Notary Commissions and Certifications Section.
  2. You make one payment to the company
  3. take the 3-hour online training quiz
  4. your commission should be issued within just a few days
  5. The notary commission certificate is printed by the Department of State and mailed to your bonding agency
  6. The entire process should be completed within 2-3 weeks
Apparently, I was fed wrong and very bad info- the test is supposed to be FREE. crap. This is what happens when I get flustered and stressed.

#62 Ceramics: DoneZO with the sculpting

I had a ceramic centerpiece day yesterday w/ Carry, Diane, & Wew. Man, Carry and I might not carry the longest convo in English but can that girl sculpt. Granted we worked for maybe 3.5-4 hours total, we pumped out 10 tall leaf vases. What. The. Crap. Then today, I scheduled another ceramic day from 2-3 and Rae & I pumped out 2 more vases! That's a total of 12 vases thus far... and seeing how quickly we were able to produce them, I kind of want to make some more but this time much more leisurely, therefor being a much better vase. Maybe something more ornate and organic as opposed to slap-slabbed together. I don't know who else out there will actually go as far as making their centerpiece VASES from scratch. I mean, get the clay, sculpt the clay, let it dry, fire the clay, glaze it, and fire it again. I see it as a longer term investment- put the hours in now and reap the benefits later. Well, now too since clay is so therapeudic.

# 61 Officiant: Robin

YES!!! Robin has decided to marry us! Apparently he had decided long ago and didn't tell us- must better than his first reaction: "Hell no!"   uhmm.......

Now he has to apply to be a notary- yesssss. He is super cool and outrageous and has been a part of Thomas' life since he was a young'n. I'm so excited!!

# 60 Project Guestbook: Idea #2

Ok so remember that previous post about me already buying my guestbook? Due to last minute changes w/ M+C's wedding and going over the $100 budget, I ended up letting them use my book as their guest book. So that leaves me back to Square 2.

I went to B&N and saw a graffiti wall book where all the photos are of blank walls and people use sharpies to "graffiti" their art and messages on the "walls." How flippin cool is that?! Well, that being said, I'd like to use the same concept but maybe instead of grungy blank walls, I'll think of something more natural or clean since it is a wedding book. My original concept w/the scrap book was to have people scribble all over the pages anyway so this would take it to another level. I also loved B+A's photo guestbook idea b/c it looked so professional but didn't want to copy them(even though it's very common).

The concept for this new book: Take pictures of walls, blank spaces, etc., dirt, grass, sky, paintings, etc. with space for people's writings. Incorporate some engagement photos of me & T so it'll still be a photobook but with an edge. I saw on B+A's blog about using artscow.com and it seemed to have nice quality for a very reasonable rate. GOTS ta USE it!!

# 58 Cantonese songs and Chinese traditions

"Wedding Day Ceremony
On the day of the wedding, two families performs "hair dressing" ritual and "capping" ritual for the bride and groom respectively. Then the groom sets out to the bride's home, and he will inevitably be blocked at her door by her friends, and the bridesmaids will play door game with the groom and his attendants.  The bride and groom will then leave her home and proceed to meet the groom's parents for Tea Ceremony.  The wedding date ceremony ends with a feast which features elaborate Chinese wedding food."

# 57 update

I've made myself some deadlines but to heck if I'm really doing it! Invites were SUPPOSED to be done last Monday but I want to scrap the entire idea, therefore I'm back at square 1. Crap. crap. I am supposed to start printing in the middle of the month. Start stuffing and getting them ready to mail out by the end of the month. I think I might get ulcers. At least I'm supposed to start my centerpiece ceramics next week with the help of Carry! We're going to just make the vases. Why?
1) doing 12-15 skinny tall vases are less obvious than doing 12-15 HUGE island centerpieces.
2) it'll be a lot faster
3) since I'm technically not enrolled in a ceramics class, I don't want to get in trouble by using their sweet facilities.

I am trying to milk the fact that I'm still a student at UWF and I have sweet access to all of these facilities.

I took on a freelance job from the UWF History Dept. while being a fulltime student and an over-part time worker. We'll see how this semester turns out!! And the next because apparently Tommy B. wants us to go on a 2 week honeymoon vacation immediately following the wedding, therefore I'll be missing the first 2 weeks of school. Hey, I love my boo, what can I say. Can't wait for the 'moon. I loves it!

# 56 do-it-yourself-to-love-it-more "IKEA effect"

Nice article by Scott Belsky, founder of Behance.com. Though it is targeted to graphic designers, the concept is well understood.

"For those of us that cook, we know that the meal always tastes better after the labor of making it. This do-it-yourself-to-love-it-more phenomenon presents an invaluable opportunity for leaders of teams – and brands. When you can set up projects for others – or even a product – with a dose of assembly required, you are likely to garner a higher level of commitment."
